Williams Drops 25 in Barn-burner
by Cody Clark ~ November 26th, 2009.Fans in a sold out Amway Arena got their money’s worth in the Orlando Magic’s showdown with their divisional rival the Miami Heat. After the Miami Heat jumped out to an 11-4 lead, Jason Williams drained threes from 25 and 27 feet and Dwight Howard slammed one home to tie the score at 15-15 , but Miami held the slim 26-24 lead after the first quarter. The second quarter sponsored little offense, as the Magic barely outscored the heat 20-17 to take a 1 point lead into the half. Rashard Lewis began the third period with three straight points, and veteran point guard Jason Williams scored 13 of his 25 points on 5/6 shooting to give the Magic a 5 point edge heading into the final stanza, which belonged to the Magic’s Ryan Anderson and the Heat’s Dwayne Wade, as Wade scored 16 of his 22 in the final quarter and Anderson dropped 9 points in the quarter. Anderson’s 9 led the Magic out to an 11 point 86-75 lead with 8 minutes to play, but that is when D-Wade took over and single-handedly gave the Heat the lead as he scored the team’s next 14 points to give them a five point lead with five to play. Vince Carter then scored the next six Magic points and with two and a half to play, the Heat lead sat at three. After another VC three, the Magic took a 98-95 lead with 14 to play, but the Heat pulled back within one on Udonis Haslem’s tip in with 10 seconds to go. With a few seconds left, D-Wade got into position for the winning shot, but put up an air ball that Beasley dunked back with 1.6 seconds left and the Heat escaped with a 99-98 win over the now 11-4 Orlando Magic. Orlando gave that win to the Heat, as they allowed them to come back from 11 down in the fourth, but they have to leave this loss at Amway as they have to travel to Atlanta today to take on the 11-3 Hawks in a Thanksgiving showdown. (I would like to thank my uncle, Mr. Randy Kopelman, and Magic point guard Mr. Jason Williams as you two made my first professional basketball game ever attended one that I will always treasure.)
