Sox Falling Apart at the Seams
by Cody Clark ~ July 23rd, 2009.After last night’s loss to the Texas Rangers, the once first place Boston Red Sox find themselves two games back to the Yankees in the American League East after being swept by the flu-stricken Rangers. The Sox came out of the All Star break with a lead over the Yankees for the division. Now the Red Sox find themselves leading the Wild Card by a few games over the Rangers. Things are pretty bad right now for the BoSox. Pitching wise, 11 game winner Tim Wakefield and Daisuke Matsusaka are on the DL. Brad Penny and John Smoltz are not living up to expectations, and the only bright spot is Josh Beckett. Hitting wise, the Red Sox are dismal. They are batting terribly since the All Star break and have not scored hardly any runs. Jason Bay and Jacoby Ellsbury are in major slumps. These are just some of the woes that the Red Sox are struggling with. But they have been trying to make improvements to their team. They just acquired Adam LaRoche from the Pirates for two minor leaguers, and successfully dumped Julio Lugo and cash on the Cardinals for Chris Duncan. I believe that the Sox also need a pitcher and are in the Halladay sweep stakes because of their superior farm system. The Red Sox will be fine, and are going through a rough stretch where they have to find themselves and come together as a team.
