Ricky Rubio: Back to Spain?
by Cody Clark ~ June 28th, 2009.Ricky Rubio, the Minnesota Timberwolves’ 5th pick in the 2009 NBA Draft, may be headed back to play with his former team in Spain. A report from Charley Walters and the Pioneer Press said that Rubio and his father were flying to Minnesota on Saturday to quietly meet with David Kahn, the T-Wolves president, to discuss Ricky’s future as a Timberwolve. The team that he played for in Spain only paid him $97,000 last year, but the team wants him back so much that they added a $6.6 million buyout to his contract. By NBA regulations, the team can only pay as much as $500,000 and the player must pay the rest of the money, so he is basically buying himself out . I think that they should try and do what it takes to sign him, or they should try and trade him away because they used most of their picks on guards and could definitely get something good in return for him. I just hope that this does not turn into some soap opera story, and I hope that he does what he needs to do to sign because I think that he will be a good player down the road.
