Rays vs. Nationals (Hah!)
by Cody Clark ~ June 13th, 2009.Last night, my family and I went to a Tampa Bay Rays game at Tropicana field with one of my mom’s friends. I was very glad because I had not been to a baseball game in a while and I was looking forward to going. Then I found out that they were playing the Washington Nationals. Anyone who follows baseball know that the Nats are Major League Baseball’s worst team, have a record of 16-43, and have won only 6 road games in 59 total games. So I was pretty much thinking that the game was going to be like the previous night when they had beaten the Angels 11-1. Then, in the top of the first inning, the Nats, who are my brother’s favorite team (Why, I’ll never know) started out with two lead off singles and scored 3 runs in the top of the first inning. I was thinking to my self that the Nats might actually get a win, but the Rays chipped away with 3 runs scattered through 7 innings, and the game winning hit came on a Gabe Kapler solo home run to make the score 4-3 Rays in the eighth. At that point we were tired, so we decided to leave the game. As we left, I wondered if the Nationals were even going to win 50, or even 55 games this season; but then I figured, heck, who cares about the league’s worst team?
