Oregon Survives Arizona in 2OTs 44-41

by Cody Clark ~ November 22nd, 2009.

Behind quarterback Jeremiah Masoli’s 9-of-13 passing for 77 yards and had three TDs on Oregon’s final three drives, (including the two overtime drives) the Oregon Ducks got their ninth win of the season and keep their Rose Bowl hopes alive. At the end of the third quarter, the score read 17-14 in favor of the Arizona Wildcats, and that is when the fireworks began. A little over a minute into the fourth stanza, Wildcat QB Nick Foles completed a touchdown pass to William Wright to give them a 10 point 24-14 lead, but the Ducks answered with 10 straight points, wrestling the lead back from Arizona. Zona would counter, however, because with 7:41 left to play, they took the lead on a Juron Criner 71 yard TD reception and on the proceeding Oregon drive, Masoli and Co. drove right down the field and tied the score with 6 seconds left in regulation. In the first overtime period, the two team traded score and headed in the second overtime knotted at 3 each. Arizona received the ball first in the second OT and tacked on an Alex Zendejas 41 yard feld goal. At that point, all the Ducks had to do was score a touchdown and they would keep their hopes of reaching the Rose Bowl very much alive, and that they did, as Jeremiah Masoli took it in from a yard out to give the Ducks a 44-41 win and hand the Wildcats their first loss at home this season. Masoi either passed for or ran for all of the Ducks touchdowns, and accounted for all the scoring save a field goal. He finished the night 26-47 for 284 yards passing and three TDs, and also rushed for 61 yards and three more touchdowns on 16 carries. Next week Oregon faces the Beavers of Oregon State for the right to play in the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California.
