Lions FINALLY Win!

by Cody Clark ~ September 28th, 2009.

For the first time in 21 months, and after going 0-16 last year, the Detroit Lions finally decided that they were not going to keep losing like this and defeated the Washington Redskins 19-14. The Lions had the only scores of the first half, coming on field goals of 39 and 26 yards from Jason Hanson and a 21 yard TD pass from Matthew Stafford to Bryant Johnson that made the score 13-0 at the half. The Lions had their sights set on a win, but the Redskins and Jason Cambell still had other ideas. Washington scored in the third on a Santana Moss 57 yard TD pass and Campbell also tossed a 4 yarder to Rock Cartwright in the fourth, but Detroit also scored in the final stanza, as Stafford handed the ball off to running back Maurice Morris, who took it in from two yards out with 5 minutes left in the game that allowed Detroit to cling to that 5 point lead as the final seconds of the game clock ticked away and the buzzer sounded. It won’t get any easier for the Lions the next three weeks as they have to face Chicago, Pittsburgh, and the Packers, but this is something that they could look back on and say “Hey, at least we won one more than we did last year!”
