It’s a Holliday in St. Louis!

by Cody Clark ~ July 24th, 2009.

The favorites in the National League Central have now added a quality bat to protect Albert Pujols in the lineup. In a deal involving 4 players total, Matt Holliday was traded to the Cardinals for three minor leaguers; 3B Brett Wallace, OF Shane Peterson, and P Clayton Mortensen. The Cards have penciled him in to today’s lineup, hittingĀ  in the cleanup spot behind Pujols. The Cards had been looking for another hitter, and have now find one, after making some other moves as the trade deadline nears. They already acquired Mark DeRosa from the Indians, and grabbing Julio Lugo and some cash from the Boston Red Sox for outfielder Chris Duncan. With this move, St. Louis has addressed a need and have really helped themselves as they look to seperate themselves from the rest of the division and grab a playoff spot.
