Hurricanes Rise to the Occasion
by Cody Clark ~ September 18th, 2009.The Miami Hurricanes owned the 1990s. They had three conference championships, two co-championships, and a national title. The Hurricanes were a powerhouse throughout the entire decade, but then they took a bit of a hit and have been not as good as they have been in recent years. But it seems that Miami is finally, gradually rising up the ranks of college football this year as they try and bring the program back into the national spotlight. The Hurricanes showed that they are ready and willing to shine with their 33-17 win over the 14th ranked Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. Jacory Harris had another outstanding game, going 20/25 for 270 yards and three touchdowns as Miami cruised past the favored GA Tech team. Jarvis James (the nephew of pro-running back Edgerrin James) also had a great game, gashing the defense for 72 yards and 14 carries and a TD. The Miami Hurricanes boasted 454 yards of total offense, while only allowing 228 yards. QB Jacory Harris is putting together a Heisman-like season, going 41/59 for 665 yards and five touchdown this year. It looks like Miami is going to be a force to be reckoned with this year as they look to once again seize the national spotlight and climb the polls as they try and get back to a BCS bowl game.
