Houston, Keenum Hang 73 on Rice
by Cody Clark ~ November 29th, 2009.Behind Case Keenum’s 323 yard, 2 touchdown performance in the first half, the Houston Cougars routed the visiting Rice Owls 73-14. In the first quarter, the Cougars took a 24-0 lead after they returned a kick and an interception for touchdowns and Keenum snuck in from a yard out to give them the early cushion. The second quarter went much like the first, as Houston put up 35 more points an Keenum tossed his two touchdown passes to give them the 59-0 halftime lead. Keenum was taken out in the second half to rest, and the Cougars still scored 14 points with mostly backups. The Heisman Trophy candidate wrapped up the regular season as the statistically best quarterback in the nation, completing 70.5% of his passes and 4,922 yards and 38 TDs against only 6 interceptions for a rating of 160.76. Houston still has their conference championship and their bowl game to play, so there is no doubt (barring any significant injury) that he will probably throw for over 5, 350 yards at least and have over 41 TD passes.
