Hazell Drops 38 in Losing Effort
by Cody Clark ~ December 29th, 2009.With a 40% three point shooting percentage, Seton Hall guard Jeremy Hazell single-handedly kept the Pirates very much alive in their match-up with the #5 ranked Syracuse Orangemen. Hazell went 6-15 from beyond the arc and shot 8-9 from the charity stripe as Seton Hall took the Orange down to the wire in a classic Big East showdown. The two teams were tied at the half 43-43, but Syracuse gradually pulled away until Seton Hall snapped out of their sluggish ways and began to cut into the ‘Cuse lead. The Pirates brought it within five on Hazell’s long three-pointer, but could not get it any closer as they fell to Syracuse 80-73. In the Pirates first 12 games, Hazell now has 20 points or more in 8 of the 12 and has gone for 30 or more 4 of those 8 times and has been lights out for the 9-3 Pirates. the Pirates get into their rugged Big East schedule in the coming weeks with UConn and Georgetown, but if Jeremy Hazell continues his hot streak, I think that they can make some noise in the Big East the rest of the year.
