Florida Sits At #1 in First BCS Poll
by Cody Clark ~ October 19th, 2009.In the first BCS standings, everything is kind of what we expected with a few surprising exceptions. These teams cannot get comfortable and complacent with their rankings, as each of these teams have very tough games ahead of them and they can’t lose these big games if they want to hold their spots in the polls and make a run at the various BCS Bowl games.
- Florida: I don’t see them losing until the SEC Championship, but if they win that, they are in the drivers seat for a berth in the National Title game
- Alabama: I think that Bama is the #1 team in the nation behind that defense (Mt. Cody-6′4″ 365) and their RB (Mark Ingram’s 24 carry 246 yard 1 TD performance) and I see them running the table and beating Florida to get to the Championship
- Texas: Their sluggish starts on offense could come back to haunt them, and they have to keep winning if they have a shot at the BCS championship
- Boise State: After squeaking by Tulsa, I think that Boise would need MAJOR help to get to the Title, but they can definitely grab a BCS bowl game
- Cincinnati: If they run the table the rest of the way and get losses from Texas, Iowa, and maybe Boise they could have a real shot at at the BCS title game (Of course, they really need Tony Pike back)
- Iowa: They have a great team, and if they beat Ohio State and run the table, they have a shot but I think that the highest they can get is a BCS bowl
- USC: If they get some help and go the rest of the way undefeated, with multiple signature wins they can creep up the ranks and surprise people.
- TCU: If they keep up their winning ways, they definitely can make a run at a BCS berth
- LSU: Playing a respectable schedule, they have a shot with some help from the non-BCS schools that are near the top as of now
- Miami: Aside from South Florida, there are not many good teams on their schedule, which hurts their chances, but offers a chance for a 10-2 season and an outside chance of a BCS bowl
- Oregon: Too many good tams ahead of them, but they will still get a respectable bowl game provided they keep winning
- Georgia Tech: The Rambling Wreck from Georgia Tech have a real chance of finishing 11-1 and grabbing a BCS bowl with a win in the conference championship game
- Penn State: If they run the table, they could see a rematch with Iowa in the Big Ten title game, but I don’t see them in a BCS game with an overall weak schedule
- Virginia Tech: The Ga. Tech loss kills them, but they can still rebound to take the ACC and finish high
- Oklahoma State: With Texas Tech, Texas, and Oklahoma left on the schedule, I can see them going 10-2 or 8-4; it just depends on how ell the offense is clicking
- BYU: Too many solid non-BCS schools ahead of the to get a large bowl game, but a good enough team to get a decent one
- Houston: The UTEP loss hurt them coming off the win against Texas Tech, but the rest of the schedule shapes up for an 11-1 season
- Utah: I think they finish at 9-3, which doesn’t cut it with the non-BCS teams ahead of them having easier schedules the rest of the way
- Ohio State: After the tough loss to Purdue, the rest of the schedule shapes up to be a tough one with Iowa and Penn State and a solid Michigan team left on the slate
- Pittsburgh: With teams such as Cincy, WVU, and Notre Dame left, I think that they slip a little in a solid conference
- Wisconsin: I see them finishing 9-3 in a conference where 4 of the 11 teams are ranked
- Arizona: I think that they finish at 7-5, and I would put either South Florida or Notre Dame in the top 25 rather than the Wildcats
- West Virginia: They are stuck behind Cincy in terms of recognition, but are having a great season behind RB Noel Devine (734 yards, 9 TDs)
- South Carolina: If they had even a hint of offense, they could have beat Alabama and I see them finishing the year at around 8-4
- Kansas: Ret of season could get tough as they still have Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas Tech, Texas, and a solid Nebraska team left on the schedule
