Downey Leads Carolina Past LSU
by Cody Clark ~ January 14th, 2010.With 29 points, 7 rebounds, and three steals, senior point guard Devan Downey continues to fill out the stat sheet night in and night out. Downey led all scorers in the South Carolina Gamecocks conference home opener, and is leading the SEC in scoring at 20.1 points a game. Carolina used a 40 point second half and a 17-1 run that began at just around the 9 minute mark left in the game, and rode that momentum and Downey’s 9 during the stretch to their 11th victory on the season. The Gamecocks are in good position in a packed SEC at 2-0, and if Downey can continue to score like he has been, USC should have a chance to get to the SEC title game.
