Day of the Upset

by Cody Clark ~ September 26th, 2009.

Each week of this season College Football season, a team that was ranked in the top 5 has gone down. In week 1, BYU stunned #3 Oklahomancf_a_masoli01_200 as Sam Bradford got injured; in week 2 it was #5 Oklahoma State falling 35-45 against Houston. In week 3, #3 USC fell by a field goal to Washington and this week, #4 Ole Miss fell to the USC Gamecocks in Columbia and also Penn State fell to Iowa 21-10 for the seventh time in the past eight years. This year, and especially this week, has been all about  upsets. This week, the unranked Oregon Ducks upset the number 6 team in the nation Cal 42-3. South Florida went into Tallahassee and beat FSU 17-7 without Matt Grothe. Carolina beat Ole Miss, and Ga. Tech beat #22 North Carolina. This has been a great year in college football, as some of the teams that are normally considered to be great every year are getting beat or are getting their money’s worth against teams of less stature and notability. All these wild finishes early in the year could possibly be giving us a glimpse into the future and may be showing us how hectic things could get coming down the stretch in college football.
