Cribbs, Harrison Sprint Into NFL Record Books
by Cody Clark ~ December 21st, 2009.With 614 total combined all-purpose yards and 5 total touchdowns, the Cleveland Browns’ Josh Cribbs and Jerome Harrison spent the entire game on Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City trying to out-duel each other. Cribbs struck first, running back the kick after a Kansas City field goal for 100 yards and a touchdown and setting the NFL record for career kick return touchdowns. Then, after the Chiefs ripped off a 21 point unanswered run, Cribbs struck again for the Browns. With two and a half minutes left in the opening half, Josh Cribbs ran back the kick for a 103 yard touchdown and allow for the Browns to pull within four 24-20 at the half. After lightning had struck in the first half with Cribbs, it struck twice for the Browns, this time inflicted by Jerome Harrison. Harrison’s first touchdown came as the only score of the third quarter, coming on a 71 yard touchdown run that put Cleveland up 27-24. In the final stanza, Harrison grabbed two more scores, including the game winner with 44 seconds left in the game which extended the Browns streak to two wins. On the day, Harrison racked up the third largest rushing performance in NFL history, going for 286 yards and three touchdowns on a whopping 34 carries, and Cribbs also set a record with two return touchdowns and totaled 305 return yards. These two performances are two of the best singular performances in any game in NFL history and may have saved head coach Eric Mangini’s job or the time being as they are riding a two game win streak and get Oakland up next.
