The United States soccer team came into this World Cup Qualifier match having never beat the Mexican team. The U.S. team is now 0-23-1 against the Mexican club on their home turf, but they came into this match with a renewed attitude. There were also reports that the start time was moved up from an evening game to an afternoon game because Mexico figured that their team was better suited in the heat against the US, but who knows. It showed in the beginning of the game as the United States and Charlie Davies took a 1-0 lead very in the first half. Mexico then countered with a goal from Israel Macias Castro minute later to knot the game up at two apiece. They took that score into half-time and it remained that way for a large portion of the second half until Miguel Sabah gave Mexico the lead on a chip shot goal about 12 feet from the net. Tim Howard had many good saves for the US, but could not deflect the last shot to salvage a tie for the US in this must win qualifying match. This win gives the Mexican club a very good chance of getting a berth in the 2010 World Cup, and the US must shake this one off as they head into another qualifier Sept. 5 in Utah.
