Boeheim Grabs 800th Win as Syracuse Rolls

by Cody Clark ~ November 10th, 2009.

Syracuse men’s head basketball coach Jim Boeheim wanted his this win to come last year in the NCAA tournament, but the next best thing is doing it at home in your season opener. Boeheim secured number 800 with a 75-43 win at home over the Albany Great Danes. (Arinze Onuaku led the team with 14 and 4 rebounds) He becomes just the eighth D-I basketball coach in history to reach this milestone. He is eighth all time, but with the next man sitting at just 804, he will no doubt move up at least another slot in that elite company as he, Coach K, and Jim Calhoun are the only active coaches that have eclipsed that mark. The Orangemen have a tough schedule as they do every year having to go through the daunting Big East, but they have a solid team and do not really have to get into the challenging part of their schedule till around February 10th when they have to play UConn, Louisville, Georgetown (twice), Villanova albeit they get a majority of those at home. I suspect that Boeheim gets at least 22 wins this year, and I also think that Syracuse will become a force to be reckoned with come March.
