5 Non-BCS Conference Schools Crack BCS Polls
by Cody Clark ~ November 9th, 2009.The BCS Standings are out for the fourth week, and this week there are 6 non-BCS conference schools in the top 25. BYU sits at #22 with a record of 7-2. They are not in contention for a BCS bowl, but I like them to at least finish at 9-3 and easily finish in the top 25. Next up is Utah who sits at 16. They are 8-1 and 5-0 in the Mountain West. With dates with BYU and TCU left on the schedule, Utah has a tough last few games, albeit I think that they finish with two losses and in the top 15 in the final poll. At #15 sits Houston, who, behind Case Keenum’s gaudy numbers (3,815 yards and 28 TDs) have jumped out to an 8-1 start. I suspect that they will finish at 11-1 and make a strong case to be in the top 10 in the final poll. At numbers 4 and 6 sit TCU and Boise State respectively. These teams are a combined 18-0. Boise gets cream puff teams the rest of the way so I expect them to go undefeated. TCU finishes with Utah, Wyoming, and New Mexico so I expect them to finish strong. These non BCS conference schools are gradually taking poll spots form some of the higher profile, more recognized teams and with a combined record between all of them of 41-4, I would put these teams (especially TCU) up against any team in the nation.
