Battle of the Quarterbacks

by Cody Clark ~ September 8th, 2009.

Last night marked the 54th meeting between the Florida State Seminoles and the Miami Hurricanes, and boy what a game it turned out to be. The QBs in this game provided most of the scoring and most all of the action and seemed totally oblivious to the other teams defenses, as Christian Ponder (FSU) and Jacory Harris (Miami) combined on 680 yards passing and six touchdowns and completing 60% of their passes. The Hurricanes drew first blood, but the Seminoles came back quickly to tie the score on a Caz Piurowski 10 yard TD catch. The teams headed into halftime with Miami leading 14-10, but the offensive fireworks continued as the second half got underway. In the third quarter, FSU scored twice to put them up 23-17, but in the fourth the Hurricanes outlasted the Seminoles scoring 3 times to give them a 38-34 win over their arch rivals. FSU really mis-managed the clock in the closing minute of this game, and that was really their demise. (Other than having no defense, but neither team had any D anyway) Stats- Ponder: 24/41 for 294 yards and three total TDs. Jacory Harris went 21/34 for a whopping 386 yards and also had three total touchdowns. Both teams also combined on a colossal 990 yards of total offense on the night.
