A Changing of the Guard in College Football?

by Cody Clark ~ October 4th, 2009.

Yesterday marked an usual occurrence in college football these days. For the fifth straight week, a team in the top 10 has lost. Yesterday, it was Miami shocking Oklahoma and basically knocking them from national title contention. Each week, one of the big dogs has gone down, and it almost happened twice as LSU barely escaped Georgia 20-13. The number 12 team Houston also dropped their game yesterday to UTEP in a game that sponsored 1,245 yards of offense and 99 total combined points. Many of these teams are realizing that they can no longer take these so called “fluff” games lightly. Take the Va. Tech game yesterday. I really thought that Va. Tech was going to blow Duke out of the stadium, but QB Thaddeus Lewis had 359 yards and 2 TDs and they almost beat the Hokies as the final score was 34-26. These so called power house teams (such as Va. Tech, Oklahoma, and others) are realizing the hard way that they can no longer take these teams for granted because, as we’ ve seen so far this year, they can be beaten on any given Saturday.
