A 13 Year Drought Continues
by Cody Clark ~ July 15th, 2009.In the 2009 MLB All-Star contest in St. Louis, Carl Crawford, Curtis Granderson, and Adam Jones delivered the American League their 7th consecutive all star win to improve their record to 12-0-1 in the past 13 contests. As a Red Sox fan, I almost died when Brad Hawpe hit that towering drive out to left field, but was relieved to see Carl Crawford (a rival Ray) steal a homer and the win away from the hopeful National League players and fans. This game happened to play out where the two suspenseful parts of the game were the first couple innings and the last couple innings. The AL came out to score 2 runs off Lincecum, and then the NL came back with 2 runs off of Halladay in the second to knot the game up at two apiece. They then proceded to a 3-3 tie in the eighth when the Tiger’s Curtis Granderson led off with a triple off the wall in left field. After an out, Adam Jones of the Orioles hit a deep fly to the right field warning track, and Curtis tagged up to score the eventual winning run as the AL handed the NL it’s 12th straight year of futility.
